Built-in Microwave Oven – a little history

Did you know that it is reported that the first food to be cooked in a microwave oven in 1947 was popcorn, the second was an egg which exploded in the face of one of the participants!

Most kitchens in America have a microwave oven. If you live in an older house you will find that most do not have the built-in microwave oven. However, if you have bought a brand new or recently built house, a built-in microwave oven is usually already installed.

If you are considering re-modeling your kitchen, installing a built-in microwave oven is a great idea. The advantages are that they are very easy to install, requiring only the space to put them in and a convenient plug socket. They are also very convenient and do not take up valuable work space like a conventional counter top model does.

Make sure you choose the model you want before planning your kitchen so you will know the measurements and can fit your chosen model easily into your kitchen design.

Things to consider:

Will it fit easily into the space you have designated for your microwave?
Is the design that you have chosen in keeping with the overall look of your new kitchen? For instance, you wouldn’t want a space age looking built-in microwave in a ‘country farmhouse’ type of kitchen.
If you are thinking about getting a colored model, will it blend into your new kitchen design or will it stick out and look out of place.
Is the space you have reserved for the built-in microwave oven easily accessible for everyone in your household that may want to use it? For example: not too high up, which could, potentially, be very dangerous.
Is your chosen design and model easy to clean?

A built-in microwave oven adds to the functionality of any kitchen design. It can be fitted in the area where your conventional oven, hob and grill are situated, keeping all these appliances in the same area of your kitchen.

If you choose your built-in microwave oven carefully, it will improve the look of your kitchen and, even if you don’t use it regularly, it is a great thing to have in your new kitchen – just in case you might need to cook something in a hurry.
